A near-black center gives Obsidian Relief its strong, understated presence. Curved bands emerge at the corners through charcoal shading and narrow warm highlights, with fine gold-toned contours tracing their shape. Much of the detail sits close to the background in tone, so the composition reveals itself gradually rather than all at once.
